A new calf
Meet Nutmeg! She is a pretty Jersey calf. She was born in October on a nearby friend's farm. The most beautiful thing is that we're still milking our shorthorn cross, Bella, who is now 5 years old. She is nursing from her! We hope to raise her and eventually breed her, after she has a calf, we can milk her.
We took Bella's calf, Ferdinand, to the butcher Oct. 17th. He was a year and half old. The meat is very good. Possibly better than other beef because he had milk from his mother for so long!
Currently, we have lamb for sale. It is $10/pound. We would like to tan the sheepskins, for now they are wrapped up and in a freezer until we are ready.
We have the heritage breed, the all black American guinea hog, which is excellent for small homesteads. Our two 1 year females had four piglets each. We sold three at 1 month old to a children's petting zoo, at $100 each. Soon we'll have pork available!
